File #7: Perpetrator (1/2)

Detective yongharu21 66830K 2023-11-02

<u>Gyeongju</u>Jaejoong's sharp eyes caught him as he was running away from the hotel, and he soon was hot on his trail.

"STOP!" He yelled. Of course, the man wasn't going to listen to anyone, let alone a police officer, and he ran on for his life.

Jaejoong felt his gun press against him as he ran after the perpetrator. He considered using it. What if this guy had a connection to the murderers? What if this guy WAS the murderer?

But there were innocent people around, and even though Jaejoong had spectacular aim, he could always miss his mark. Deciding against it, he ran after the man. Jaejoong quickened his pace, but the man was still too fast for him, and could outrun him any minute now.

"Jaejoong!" A man yelled, coming up to his right.

"Junhyung!" Jaejoong yelled back, his eyes still on the perp. "We've got to come up with something-"

"He's heading for the city park! You go left and cut him off there!" Junhyung shouted, pointing left at another road. Jaejoong nodded and the both of them split up.

"STOP!" Junhyung yelled at the perp as he dodged through the morning crowd.

The two eventually reached the park, where the number of people were much lesser.

The perpetrator turned around and shot at Junhyung. The bullet grazed his skin, but painfully. He grabbed the wound painfully, refusing to give up on the chase. This was the only connection they had to the otherwise impossible case, and they couldn't let such a vital piece in the game get away!

The man stopped and turned around, aiming his gun straight at Junhyung, who stopped and glared at him.

"Move, and I shoot." He spat aggressively.

"We don't have to do this." Junhyung compromised.

"Sorry, that shit's not going to work with me." He smirked.

"Look, if you help us out here, we can insure you police immunity. You don't need to do all this." Junhyung tried again.

"Are all police officers this dumb?!" The man shouted angrily. "Idiot! I'm not going to betray them! Stop trying to talk me into things!"

"Then you should've stopped talking when you had the chance." Junhyung smirked, just as Jaejoong pushed him to the side and floored him.

"You're in for a hell of a time!" Jaejoong smirked as he put the handcuffs around the man's wrists.<u>Seoul</u>"Ah, Hyunseung."

"Seunghyun hyung!" Hyunseung smiled. "It's nice to see you again. Why so worried?"

"Ah, we've just got some bad news. Jiyong's grandmother died." Seunghyun sighed heavily. "Shot. Murdered."

"Was it the murderers?" Hyunseung asked suspiciously, referring to the serial killers.

"No, this was different. That's all we know. I have to go now, I'll talk to you later-"

The two nodded and walked their own ways, when suddenly, Seunghyun called out his name again.

"Is she okay? Your girl?"

Hyunseung sighed and nodded slowly. "She's coping. I gotta go now. Bye, hyung."<u>Gyeongju</u>"Who sent you?" Yoseob hissed angrily. The man refused to talk, glaring at the trio angrily.

"We're not going to get anything out of this guy." Dongwoon growled to himself and walked out of the room. Junhyung slammed the table and followed him out of the room, followed by Yoseob.

"This one's tough. I've never seen someone so loyal to his boss." Jina sniffed.

"He isn't the slightest bit intimidated by any of us. Even Eunjae couldn't do anything!" Kikwang muttered angrily. Almost everyone of them had interrogated the now prime suspect and he hadn't revealed a single thing to any of them. Even Eunjae, who majored in psychology, was unable to make him talk.

"The only thing he said was fuck you to Jaejoong and Doojoon." Yoseob rolled his eyes. Just then, the Gyeongju station's chief investigator walked up to them.

"Kikwang, here are the results you asked for." He handed over a file to him.

"Thanks, Heechul hyung." Kikwang nodded and slowly looked through the file.

"I knew it." He sighed heavily. "Cyanide poisoning."

"Instant murder. He knew that she'd get caught, so he finished her off." Doojoon said grimly. "So that we won't get anything out of her."

"He's not saying anything either..." Jina sighed. "So the murderers are that powerful..."

"He's a tough one, this." Eunjae sighed, looking at the perp through the two-way mirror. "I don't think that torturing him would work either."

"We can't do anything right now, we'll just have to be patient..." Heechul said quietly.

"I'll stay." Kikwang offered, as everyone made to leave.

"Me too." Eunjae nodded. Everyone agreed and soon, only Kikwang and Eunjae were the only ones in the room.

"So, Miss. Harvard major." Kikwang smiled lightly. "How about you do an on-the-spot analysis of our guy?"

"Hmm..." Eunjae looked at him for a while. He was sitting with his head bent low, staring at the table with a worried expression, lost in thought.

"He's troubled. He may seem all tough and stuff but he's just plain worried about something. If I had to guess, he didn't want to do this." Eunjae concluded.
