Secrets and Rendezvous (1/1)

“Seohyun! Let’s go inside.” Yuri dragged Seohyun’s arm and pulled her inside. Seohyun made a quick bow to Yesung before Yuri slammed the door behind them. “Why do they always slam the door in front of my cute face?” Yesung asked himself while staring at the door in front of him.“Yah! Yuri! Open the door please… Let’s talk!” Yesung said rapping at the door. “I don’t want to talk to you, jerk!” Yuri screamed through the door. On the other hand, Seohyun stood dumbfounded at the corner wondering what the past of these two was. It was her first time seeing Yuri got mad like this to a person.“What did you call me?!” Seohyun heard Yesung say from the other side of the door. “JERK!” Yuri called out. Yesung opened his mouth to protest but he then felt his phone vibrating inside his pocket. It was a phone call and he picked it up. “Yesung, where are you? You are one of the main cast in the play.  You should be here already. The meeting is about to start,” the person on the other line said.“I’ll be there in few minutes,” Yesung replied. He hanged up the phone and left.  Anyway, it was no use to talk to Yuri when she was at the peak of her furiousness.Yesung arrived at the meeting just in time before they’ve discussed the first agenda. However, throughout the meeting, his mind was not focused on any of the ideas they were discussing. Their words merely entered to his left ear and then went out to his right ear. He was still thinking about his last encounter with Yuri. “Yuri had changed a lot,” Yesung thought. The way she dressed up now was a whole lot different from what he remembered back in their middle school days. Yuri used to wear baggy clothes and had her hair tied in a ponytail or a bun hidden under a cap. Yuri was so boyish he gave her a nickname gangster Yul but he was surprised when he saw her earlier. He almost did not recognize her. Seeing her in sleeveless top and skinny jeans which showcased her figure and her wavy locks down, all Yesung could say was that Yuri’s gorgeous. He continued to stare blankly at the sheet of paper in front of him while biting the end of his pen until his colleague called his attention. “Yesung, what do you think about that idea?”“Huh?” Yesung looked up, his pen still on his mouth. “What is the question again?”“Are you still with us?”“Sorry.” He said apologetically while scratching his head. “I think we should take a break,” the head of the team said. One by one, the people got up from their seats including Yesung. He then proceeded outside of the building. He strolled around and found a mini park situated beside the building. There he saw a bunch of boys who appeared to be bullying a young girl. He was about to interfere when another boy showed up to the girl’s rescue.  Yesung was instantly reminded of his middle school days with Yuri. They were like that boy and girl too, only the role was reversed. It was not him who was there to protect Yuri. It was Yuri who always defended him.Flashback“Hey there, Sungie! Collecting bugs again, we suppose…” Two boys called Yesung who was stooping on the ground. “They’re here again,” Yesung said to himself. He did not budge as they came nearer. Guess it was time for the big boys to play with their favorite playmate or maybe the term “toy” was the exact term. He wanted to run but he knew that these goons would catch him up anyway and when that happened, a greater doom awaits. As soon as they spotted the glass jar that Yesung’s holding, they immediately grabbed it from him.“Yah! Give it back to me or else-” He stood up and clenched his fist in front of him. “Or else what?!” One of the boys approached him and gave him a glare. Yesung stepped back. “Nothing.” He answered sheepishly.“What if we throw this away?” The other boy seized the jar and acted as if he’s gonna throw it. “No! Please…”  Yesung pleaded and kneeled in front of them as if those bugs inside the jar were his most precious possessions. “Fine, we’ll give it back to you if you will win against us in basketball,” they said.“Two against one… that’s unfair,” Yesung protested. He stood up from his kneeling position. The truth was, even if it’s a one-on-one match, Yesung knew that he would never win because he really sucked in sports. He was hoping that these bullies would let him find a teammate… Maybe, it would increase his chance of winning.“It doesn’t matter. Let’s start the game.” Just then, a girl with long straight hair tied in a ponytail approached them. She had been watching the scene from afar. “Yah! I’ll be his teammate.”“You’re the new student, right? This is interesting.” The two bullies looked at each other with smirk on their faces.  They thought they’ve found a new victim. “But I’ve got a condition…” the girl said. Yesung looked at her. “If we win, you are not going to bully him anymore.” She pointed at Yesung. “Or else I’ll mess up with you.” What a strong remark she had given. They were all stunned. The other bully went to get a ball while the other stayed. While waiting for the other to come back with the ball, she put down her bag, rolled up her sleeves and made some warm-up stretches. As soon as the other arrived with the ball, the game started.Yesung was indeed a major fail in basketball. He missed all his shots and always got the ball stolen from his hands. On the other hand, this mysterious girl seemed to compensate Yesung’s skill. She stole the ball from the opponents and always made perfect shots. Soon the game ended and the results… Yesung’s team won. The two bullies, unsatisfied with the results, decided to attack the two but the girl was quick enough to grab the collars of the two. Scared, the two ran off. Yesung raised his hand to high-five her. She was about to high-five back when Yesung immediately put his hand down leaving her hand in the air. Both are tired so they decided to lie on the grass. “Kwon Yuri.” The girl finally introduced herself. “I’m in the same class as you. You arrived late in class this morning so you might not know me. I’m a new transfer here.” She offered her hand for a shake and Yesung accepted it. “I’m Kim Yesung, nice to meet you.” There was a pregnant pause. Both of them looked up in the sky.“By the way, thanks. You’re pretty cool there.” Yesung broke the silence. “And you’re such a major fail.” Yuri sniggered.“So you call me a major fail.” Yesung picked up the jar and showed it to Yuri. Once Yuri saw the bugs, she immediately ran away. Yesung followed and he chased her around the school yard. This was how their friendship started. They became so inseparable that sometimes their classmates would tease them but they always disagreed to it. But their friendship somehow ended when Yesung and his parents had to move to Seoul.  Not wanting to hurt Yuri’s feelings, he did not tell her anything so he left without a notice and that’s the reason Yuri hated him. Yesung knew that their separation was not good but he thought time would ease Yuri’s feelings. Apparently, he’s wrong.     Seohyun looked nervously at Yuri who was devouring the sandwich. She was trying to ease her anger by eating. “What’s up with you and Yesung? You should not be mingling with people who don’t keep their promises.” Yuri asked, her mouth still full with food.  “Omo, what would I say?” Seohyun thought. “Uhm –“ Suddenly her phone rang. “Whose phone is it?” Yuri asked. The ringtone was not familiar to her. “That’s mine.” Seohyun stood up and searched for the phone in her bag. It was Kyuhyun calling. “Argh, he really has a bad timing.”  “Is that a new phone?” Yuri asked when she spotted the phone in Seohyun’s hands. “Yeah, my phone was broken so I bought a new one.  Just for a while, I need to answer this call.” Yuri watched Seohyun went outside the apartment.  She started to become suspicious.  Usually, it was okay for Seohyun to answer a phone call when she’s around. It doesn’t matter whoever it was who called. This time it was different. Was she hiding something?“Seohyun, your job starts tomorrow. Be there at the mansion eleven o’clock sharp. Grandma invited you for a lunch. Got it?” Kyuhyun said on the other line. “Yes.” Seohyun replied.“Yes…” Kyuhyun said waiting for Seohyun to add something to that sentence. Irritated, Seohyun asked Kyuhyun. “What else do you want me to say, oppa?” “I want you to call me Master.” Kyuhyun replied. Seohyun rolled her eyes. “Yes Master.”  Seohyun said reluctantly before hanging up.“Who’s that? Yesung?” Yuri asked as soon as Seohyun entered. “No. It’s Kyuhyun-“ Seohyun stopped herself. Her eyes widened. Feeling intrigued, Yuri asked the younger one. “Who’s Kyuhyun? I don’t know someone from school whose name is Kyuhyun. Is he your suitor?”“NO!” Seohyun answered. She shook her head frantically. “Ah… my Seohyunnie is finally dating… You don’t have to deny it.” Yuri went lovey-dovey and teased her. Seohyun excused herself and told Yuri that she’s tired.“Wait! You haven’t told me yet what happened to you yesterday and the other day?” Yuri tried to stop Seohyun from entering her room but she already locked herself in her room to avoid Yuri’s interrogation. She was only gone for two days and so many things had happened but the worst was that she did not know what exactly are those events that happened and Seohyun had been hiding secrets from him.
