His brown hair swayed with the wind, and I felt myself wanting to reach out and run my fingers through his hair. But I restrained myself. I stayed still, watching his every move, his every breath. I tried to etch them in my brain, in case this will be the last time Ill see him.Weve been friends since we were born. We spent every second of our time together. We go to the same school, we have the same classes, we even live in the same neighborhood. He was my bestfriend. Whenever I had nightmares, I would call him and hell quickly come over to my house, and hell sing me to sleep. Whenever someone teases me, he stands up to me. He was like the big brother I never had. But I know that we both know that hell never treat me as a sister and Ill never treat him as my brother. Just a day ago, he confessed his feelings for me. He was overjoyed when I told him I felt the same way.All that felt like years ago."Will we ever meet again?" his voice broke on the last word.I thought about it for a second."I dont know," I whispered. The grass field stretched out in front of us. This was our favorite place. Right then and there, all I ever wanted was to stay there with him. Because tomorrow, I will be moving away with my family. He held out his hand to me, and I saw a necklace resting on his palm. It had a half a heart pendant."What is it?"He smiled. But I could see the sadness beyond his eyes. "Just something to remember me by." The necklace shimmered in the sunlight."I have the other half," he reached inside his pocket again and got out another silver necklace, half a heart, just like he said. He put the two halves together, and showed it to me. "So that well never forget. And well find the way back to each other."I smiled back at him. "Will you help me put it on?"He went behind me, and his fingers were smooth against my skin as he clasped the necklace in place. I did the same to him, and when we were finished, we settled back on the grass, sitting side by side.Silence stretched between usHe looked at me and I turned my head to him. A single tear fell down from his eyes. My hands found their way to his, and he held mine tightly.When he spoke, his voice was hoarse. "Ill find you. Come back quickly. When we meet again, I promise Ill marry you," he said.I pried my hand from his and touched his face. He kissed the palm of my hand and I felt his tears."I love you," he whispered, tears continuously running down his face. My own vision blurred and I blinked my tears away. He reached up and wiped them. I pulled him to me, burying my head on his shoulder.
