The lights had become blinding. She could hear distant screams and worried shouts around her; the floor seemed to tremble dizzily beneath her.  She felt a warm hand on her skin.  Trying hard to focus on it, she closed her eyes then opened them, but the pain was engulfing her awareness.  She wanted to finish this...no...needed to finish this, it was her only hope. The voices around her were growing muffled, and the lights dimmed. Unable to hold onto the remaining remnants of consciousness...she slipped into the waiting darkness.
