Summary:

How far will you go to keep a job? How far will you go to please your family? Would you ever marry someone you have no respect for?  I uploaded this story in Soompi a few years ago and it got great reviews so I decided to revive it here and see what peopel think of it now :) Please do support! Foreword“Mr Jung will see you now,” I say to the redhead waiting to see my boss, the latest in his line of girlfriends. I had to admit that she was one of the nicest I’d met though. She smiles at me and heads through the doors. Her name is Eun Hee, I think absently. My name is Bae Seul Gi and for the past four years I’ve been working as the personal secretary of Mr Jung Yunho, heir to the throne of the empire that is the Jung Group, his family’s company. Founded by his sharp-minded father, a wonderful, friendly and caring man that had unfortunately passed away two years earlier, it had become the one of Korea’s leading companies and dealt in almost every field. I had been his secretary for two years before Yunho had taken over. I did miss him. He had been the nicest boss I’d ever had and had even helped me take care of little Junsu. Junsu was the boy that I had come to be in charge of when his mother, my best friend, passed away during childbirth. No matter how many times I told him otherwise, he insisted on calling me ‘Mom’ for, as he said, I was, for all intents and purposes, the only mother figure he had ever known. The issue was that as Junsu was illegitimate, I was not his legal guardian. Mr Jung senior had protected our rights and for that, I was eternally grateful. Obviously can’t expect the same kind of treatment from Mr Jung Junior…In the afternoon, Yunho, as I privately called him, having absolutely no respect for him whatsoever, comes into my small office, his face an innocent expression with just the right amount of fake “barely controlled pain” in his eyes. I roll my eyes. I was used to this. This face meant that he wanted something.“Hey Seul Gi, let me give you a ride home.”Don’t let the kind offer fool you. Each time he gives me a ride home, he ends up having dinner at my house. The only reason I put up with it is that Junsu absolutely adores him. So, just like always, I find myself making dinner for him while he and Junsu pit their wits against the formidable Changmin, my other best friend, in a game of chess. They have no hope of winning. Junsu has his dinner first. As always, Yunho is the one that entertains him while he eats and then tucks him into bed after I wash him up. Yunho is surprisingly good with children. Totally doesn’t fit in with his Richard Simmons-like behavior to the rest of us. “So, Seul Gi, Changmin here tells me you’re single,” Yunho states once we’ve all settled down to our dinner. I nearly choke on my salmon salad. Turning to glare at Changming, I wonder where Yunho’s going with this line of conversation. “Which is surprising, good looking girl like you and all that,” he carries on. I narrow my eyes at him. Here, Changmin excuses himself and goes into the kitchen. I can hear him chuckling from inside. Yunho continues, oblivious. “Anyway, Bae,” he clears his throat before continuing. What?! Bae?! Why on earth was he calling me Bae? Only Changmin, called me that. This was getting more and more suspect by the word.“I need to get married. My mother has given me an ultimatum. It’s either marry a decent girl who really loves me or get written out of the will. I’ve asked Eun Hae and she’s said no.”“It’s Eun Hee,” I correct automatically thinking that he must be expecting me, as his secretary to find a good girl for him. Jeez, this guy expects too much from me...He blinks, confused, before rushing out the last part of whatever he was trying to say. “Bae, I’ve talked to Changmin. You’re barely able to support Junsu and Changmin, smart as he is, can’t teach Junsu forever. Junsu needs to go to a real school, with real friends. I know you can’t afford that, but I can help with that. All you have to do is marry me.”
