You cant play with us, freak!" Five year old ______ looked up from the sandbox, seeing what all her friends were screaming about. A small boy was standing outside the sandbox, pail and shovel in hands. His eyes were wide and his lower lip was beginning to tremble as the kids continued making fun of him and shooing him away. Finally, tears started trickling down his pale face. Satisfied, the children went back to play in the sand. ______ frowned, however, remembering what her mother had told her. It wasnt nice to make anyone upset. Hurting someones feelings wasnt just a joke. So the little girl stood up, walking over to the edge of the sandbox and looked at the crying boy with curiosity. He quickly stepped back, still crying and worried that she would tease him, too. "Whats your name?" she asked instead, as if nothing had happened. The boy looked surprised. He moved his tiny hand to his face, wiping his tears away leaving his white cheeks slightly blotched and red. "Yixing," he introduced himself in a quiet voice, his lower lip still wavering slightly. The girl smiled brightly and stuck her hand out, just like she saw adults do when they greeted each other. "My name is ______. Im five years old." Yixing looked down at her hand with wide eyes, sniffing before taking it and barely moving it. "Im.. Im six," he said softly and shyly, his eyes concentrating downwards. ______ widened her own, amazed. She had never met a six year old before. "So, does that mean I can call you oppa?" she asked suddenly, remembering the term her older sister used with her boyfriend. Yixing wasnt _____s boyfriend, but she still wanted to call him that. Yixing was a bit hard to pronounce. "O...oppa? What.. what does that mean?" he asked nervously, his cheeks still a bit red. _____ looked at him in surprise. Didnt he go to school? Six year olds were supposed to be in the first grade, and even she already knew how to address elders in kindergarten. "Its what a girl calls a boy thats older than her, silly!" she giggled, poking his cheek. "Didnt you learn that in kindergarten?" Yixing blushed even more, looking down at the ground. "N-no.. but.. I didnt go to kindergarten here.. I used to live in China..." ______ widened her eyes even more. A six year old from China? He was getting cooler and cooler by the second. She remembered her father going to China for work, and all the gifts he would bring back for her and her brother and sister. "Does that mean you have a lot of cool stuff?" she blurted out, looking at the boy hopefully. "I.. I have this pail and shovel.. I can share with you.." he looked at her timidly, barely holding his toys up. She admired them in delight, leaning over the edge of the sandbox to take his hand. "Come on then, oppa! Ill share my toys with you, too!" She led him over to her spot, ignoring the other kids looks of disbelief and disgust. They were just jealous, in her opinion. The two played together for hours, off in their own little world with their crazy imaginations. They played together almost every single day after that, as well. Their families came to know each other well because of how frequently the two were together, and they continued to be best friends as they advanced through elementary school and middle school, and even high school. Although high school was a bit different.
